Gonzaga Cross Country is represented by three teams—Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman—with a total of nearly 75 runners. Coach John Ausema began coaching Varsity in 2007, and under his direction, the team has won eight WCAC championships in recent years, including 2023, when they also took home the DCSAA title for the fifth time in his tenure.
In 2023, the team also won the Glavin Cup as the top Jesuit school at the McQuaid Invitational, and earned All-Southeast Region honors for their finish at the Nike Southeast Regional Championships. Additionally, Coach Ausema was named DCSAA Coach of the Year for the sixth time.
We look forward to a great season of competition in the fall of 2024! On this page, you'll find the team’s schedule and roster, as well as results after each competition. Go Gonzaga!
Coach Ausema took over as head coach in 2007, after serving as assistant coach from 2004-2006. He was previously head track and cross country coach at a private school in Delaware, and was named New Castle County coach of the year in 1998. Under his direction the team has won four WCAC championships.
