In Memoriam: John A. Mazariegos '74

It is with a heavy heart that Gonzaga announces the recent passing of alumnus John Mazariegos '74. A true man for others, John was honored with the Father Novotny Service Award in 2019 for his outstanding contributions over the past 25 years as a missionary in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. His dedication to building a permanent home for his missionary work in rural Mexico was a cause that many of his former Gonzaga classmates passionately supported.

The nonprofit Foursquare Missions International, where John was deeply involved, shared this tribute:

Together with his wife, Robin, John served as a missionary worker, pastor and church planter in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, for over 25 years. During their ministry, they planted 20 churches and discipled and trained numerous leaders.

John received his call to the mission field during a short-term construction trip to Mexico.
After realizing his need for additional training, he received a bachelor’s degree from LIFE Bible College (now LIFE Pacific University) and then went on to earn his Master of Divinity from Gordon–Conwell Theological Seminary.

Before returning to Mexico, John served as the dean of students at Life Bible College East (Now Life Pacific University—Virginia) in Christiansburg, Va. He later served on the Foursquare board of directors.)
