Derek Dixon '25 Named DC Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year

Congratulations to senior basketball player Derek Dixon for being named the 2024-2025 Gatorade District of Columbia Player of the Year! The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court. Dixon is the 11th Gonzaga basketball player to earn this prestigious honor. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound senior guard led the Eagles to a 29-5 record and the DCSAA Class AA tournament championship this past season. He averaged 14.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while connecting on 38.5 percent of his 208 attempts from beyond the arc. The Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Player of the Year, he is ranked as the nation’s No. 44 recruit in the Class of 2025 by Rivals.com and will play at the University of North Carolina next year. Dixon has maintained a weighted 4.10 GPA in the classroom and served the less fortunate in the DC area through our Campus Ministry program here on Eye Street.
