Olu Fashanu '20 Visits and Donates to GMC Gala
New York Jets rookie Olumuyiwa "Olu" Fashanu ’20 came back to Eye Street during his recent bye week. Olu and his father Anthony visited Coach Randy Trivers and donated two signed jerseys - Gonzaga #77 and Jets #74 - that will be auctioned to lucky bidders at the annual Gonzaga Mothers Club Gala on Saturday, December 7.
In April at the NFL Draft,
Fashanu and former teammate Caleb Williams '21 (Chicago Bears) made NFL Draft history as the highest pair of former high school teammates picked in the same draft. Olu has played in almost 300 snaps for the Jets in his rookie campaign, filling in at right tackle, right guard, and left tackle due to injuries and has started in three games. He played his best game in a close 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, December 1.

Sports Illustrated's recent article "New York Jets Rookie Olu Fashanu Shining Star in Dark, Lost Season" states that Olu has emerged as one of the few bright spots when it comes to the franchise's future. Olu will likely continue to start at left tackle for the remainder of the season, and four-time NFL MVP QB Aaron Rodgers had high praise for the rookie. Rodgers said, "The game has never been too big for Olu. I feel like he has been consistent every day. If he makes a mistake, he doesn't repeat it. His attitude is very quiet, and he goes about his business. I think he is in a good spot... I am very confident in him."
We wish Olu the best of luck going forward, and thank him for his generous support of the Gala this year.
Hail Gonzaga!
