News of Alumni: Jack Hencke ‘71
Jack Hencke ‘71 served as the head official at the
East Coast Elite track meet at the Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, January 4 -- where Gonzaga's Indoor Track team was also competing.
As the team gathered for their team meeting and pre-competition prayer, Mr. Hencke noticed the purple and came over to introduce himself and offer some words of encouragement. "It was very kind of of Mr. Hencke to share a brief reflection of his time on Eye Street, and wish us the best ahead of the start of the competition," said Head Coach Conrad Singh '00. "He told the boys to be grateful for Gonzaga and the extraordinary experience that it provides them." Having participated in track and football for two years while a student, Mr. Hencke shared some great perspective for the boys as his time as a student-athlete preceded the installation of Buchanan Field and a track on campus.
Twenty-one Eagles competed at VMI with our top finishes including Lincoln Fisher ‘25 earning second place in the long jump, Lincoln Shelton '27 coming in third place in the 55 meter dash, and the 4x200 relay team (Calvin Timm '25, Shelton, Jimmy Mulholland '25, Fisher) finishing third. Click
