Gonzaga Attends Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice

This past weekend, 17 students and a number of faculty members took part in the 27th annual Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, a conference that brings together Jesuit schools, parishes, and organizations to learn about how our Catholic faith informs our commitment to justice. Gonzaga’s representatives joined more than 1,700 attendees to discuss and learn about timely issues through two days of dynamic speakers, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities.

A highlight of the conference was a vigil of remembrance that was held on Saturday for the 35th anniversary of the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador. On Monday, participants also lobbied members of Congress on issues including climate justice and immigration.

Assistant Director of Campus Ministry Dr. Colleen Karchunas joined the students and was impressed by their commitment and poise. “It was so heartening to see our students bring all of their learning and formation from Gonzaga to this experience, their interests in politics, their desire to protect the environment, their willingness to be open to growth by being challenged by new viewpoints, their Catholic faith, and their awareness of their responsibility to protect and advocate for others as Jesuit-educated students.”
