New Black History Month Exhibit Celebrates Black Women
As part of our Black History Month celebrations this year, Gonzaga recently unveiled a new exhibit called "Phenomenal Women."
Inspired by a book of poetry by Maya Angelou called Phenomenal Woman, the exhibit was created by the Onyx Club with the help of the Gonzaga Library. Through photographs, artifacts, sculpture, painting, and more, the exhibit celebrates the strength, resilience, and complexity of women, particularly Black women.
A focal point is a beautiful painting by Kai Jones '25 called Pieta. According to the exhibit caption, the work "highlights the strength of Black motherhood and a specific type of pain that many experience: the loss of Black sons."
The exhibit will be on display outside the Innovation Commons until early April. We hope you enjoy these photos, and we encourage visitors to stop by and explore it in person if they are on campus.
