Gonzaga Basketball had a standout week, sweeping three WCAC rivals over a five-day span.
The first win came on January 24 against St. John's. Leading up to the game, Head Coach Steve Turner shared this thought with the Washington Post, "These kids know each other, and it can get personal... We have to realize that none of that matters. The win comes if we play together versus trying to win individual matchups." Derek Dixon '25 and Alex Touomou '25 combined for 18 of Gonzaga’s 21 points in the 4th quarter to lead the way to the 69-59 road win. Click here to read the full article.
Just two days later, the Eagles hosted the DeMatha Stags on Coach Myers Court in a matchup that was originally scheduled for January 7 but was postponed due to snow. After leading by 7 at the half, the team came away with the 74-62 win. Here are the highlights:
And on Tuesday, the Eagles welcomed Paul VI to Eye Street. Coming into the game, the Panthers were 6-0 in WCAC play and making a bid for their third straight undefeated regular season in league play. Seniors Will Harper and Christian Gurdak led the way early, but Gonzaga trailed 31-29 at halftime. Clutch shooting from Dixon and great defense by Nyk Lewis '25 late proved to be the difference. Carter Meadows '26 and Malachi Terrell '27 made great contributions off of the bench. Enjoy highlights from the and 61-58 win in front of a standing room only crowd in the Carmody Center here:
