Nick Morabito '22 named DC Baseball Gatorade Player of the Year

On Friday, June 3rd, Nicholas Morabito '22 was named the 2021-22 Gatorade District Of Columbia Player of the Year, which honors the most elite high school student-athletes in 12 varsity sports for their athletic excellence, academic achievement, and exemplary character.

Here is what the committee had to say about Nick: "The 5-foot-11, 195-pound senior center fielder led the Eagles to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and DCSAA tournament titles this past season. Morabito batted .545 with 12 home runs, 10 doubles and six triples. The co-Player of the Year in the WCAC, he walked 29 times and stole 52 bases, compiling a .644 on-base percentage and a 1.119 slugging percentage while playing superb defense in the outfield." The committee also mentioned Nick's volunteering for the Father McKenna Center, the Share Food Network, and as a youth baseball coach and mentor.

“Nick’s in-game speed was about as good as I’ve ever seen,” said Kyle Padgett, head coach of Bishop O’Connell High School. “He played an outstanding center field and was a terror on the base paths. Nick is a stud.”

"Morabito has maintained a 3.33 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball on scholarship at Virginia Tech this fall, but is projected as an early round selection in July’s Major League Baseball draft."

Congratulations to Nick who led Gonzaga Baseball to both WCAC and DC State Championships this year.

Hail Gonzaga!
