News of Alumni: Brendan Tuohey ‘92
Brendan Tuohey ’92 and Peace Players International, the nonprofit he co-founded with brother Sean Tuohey ’95, were honored at the 11th annual Sports Business Awards in New York City.
Sponsored by Sports Business Journal magazine, the awards were presented at a black tie gala on Wednesday, May 23. Peace Players International, a conflict resolution nonprofit that uses basketball to bring young people together, received the Celebration of Service Award.
PPI launched in 2001 and now operates year-round programs in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, the Middle East, and South Africa. In 2017, it began a partnership with Nike in U.S. cities to improve relationships between youth and police.
“We’re building a network of kids, coaches, and parents that have this common experience of seeing the humanity in one another and developing friendships,” Brendan said in
an article in the Sports Business Journal about his award. “Our goal is not to create the best basketball players; it’s to create the best people and create a foundation for them to see each other as human beings and build relationships around that.”
Congratulations to Brendan!
