Celebrating LASO and Hispanic Heritage Month

The leaders of the Latin American Student Organization (LASO) have created an exhibit called “Somos Unidos: We Are United” to honor the 25th anniversary of the club and commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month. The exhibit celebrates Hispanic culture, food, people, and experiences through photographs and artifacts. All text throughout the exhibit also includes Spanish translations.

LASO leaders Bryan Mercado, Jaden Rivas, Diego Diaz, Luis Martinez-Molina, and Nico McKee (all Class of '25) selected, curated, translated and installed the content, which includes club photographs and mementos from 25 years of LASO; tributes to famous Latino and Latina artists, activists, athletes, actors and authors; links to popular music; a pair of collectible sneakers; and an array of sodas from different Latin countries.

The student leaders dedicated the exhibit to Saint Óscar Romero (1917-1980), the former Archbishop of San Salvador who spoke out frequently against violence and human rights violations, and was assassinated in 1980. It will be on display outside the Innovation Commons through October 21.
