Robotics Club Enters Student Competition at Johns Hopkins

Last weekend, Gonzaga's newly formed Robotics Club entered into its first-ever competition at Johns Hopkins University. Called the Laurel Maryland FIRST Tech Challenge Qualifier, the event brought together 27 teams of students from around the Washington area who were each tasked with designing, building, programming, and then operating a robot in a head-to-head challenge.

 

The Robotics Club is moderated by Assistant Director of Educational Technology Mr. Robert Horan '12, who works with and supports students on a variety of different projects in our new Innovation Commons. In addition to the Robotics Club, Gonzaga offers a number of STEM-related clubs including  Aerospace and Game Design.

 

 "We are a rookie team for sure," Mr. Horan says about the Robotics Club. "But having the students build something and then showcasing it in a regional competition like this was a big goal for the year. I'm really proud of this group of guys."
